Microsoft: Sorry for European Surface delays, here’s a gift card

Microsoft: Sorry for European Surface delays, here's a gift card. Tablets, Microsoft, Microsoft Surface, Windows RT 0

Microsoft has apologized to European customers who had pre-ordered the new Surface tablet for an October 26 delivery only to be left disappointed and empty-handed.

As a means to making it up to them, Microsoft will give every customer who was affected, a €50 gift card (?40) to spend online at the Microsoft Store.?

Customers in the UK and the rest of Europe had been left confused about their delivery after mixed messages filtered through to them.?

Initially, when rumours of a delay first started to emerge, Microsoft began informing customers that there was indeed a problem and that the devices wouldn’t arrive until early November.?

However, a second message was then sent out, including a tweet on the?Surface’s official Twitter page stating: “Customers should expect their devices by the original date given.”

When that date came and went with no device turning up, disgruntled customers began contacting Microsoft demanding answers.

Microsoft has now acknowledged their was a problem with deliveries but that customers should receive their Surface tablets imminently – they will be alerted via email - along with a €50 gift card as a way of an apology.?

The US had its own Surface issues, with Microsoft selling out of 32GB models on its online store.

Dell XPS 10 Windows RT Tablet Reaches the FCC, Gets Dissected

Dell XPS 10 is a Windows RT tablet, that has just reached the FCC, where it went through a teardown. This product was announced back in August and now it’s time for officials to certify it and test it. This device is a slate based on a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor at 1.5 GHz.

It has up to 64 GB of flash storage, dual band WiFi (a/b/g/n), and a front 2 megapixel camera, as well as a 5 megapixel rear camera. Upfront here’s a 10.1 inch 1366 x 768 pixel display and the price tag in this case is $500, just like the Surface Tablet. The external photos of the XPS 10 reveal a bulky charger, as well as a proprietary dock connector. The manual of the tablet does mention that you can charge the device via microUSB as well. Dell XPS 10 has a microUSB to standard USB adapter bundled and mini HDMi to HDMI cable, too.

It has a microSD card slot, that supports up to 64 GB of extra storage. The product will start shipping on December 12th 2012, pretty late if you consider that the similarly priced Surface Tablet is available right now.

Google Nexus 10 Specifications

The official specifications for the Nexus 10 have been announced today.

Despite the delay of Google’s launch event, all the details are now up on their website.

Nexus 10 Specifications

So the interesting points to pick up on, the new 10″ tablet has an impressive screen resolution in packing 300 pixels into every inch (whilst the previous leader only packs in 264).  Again there appears to be no SD storage which indicates this could be a disappointing tend for future tablets.  This is a real shame imo as users are crying out for this.  But it is good to see HDMI output is included on the Nexus 10.

And of course, no new tablet would be complete without a new operating system, welcome to Android 4.2!  Hopefully this means Nexus 7 owners can expect an update in November.
